A Baptism

First of all- Thank you for all the Birthday wishes this week! I felt so loved and I had a great day!

This week was awesome! We were really busy and we saw a lot of miracles!

I will just focus on the last half of the week. So on thursday everything cancelled on us but that evening we were able to pick up a new investigator. Sister Owens and I taught Sharon the Restoration. The spirit was really strong and it was a powerful lesson!

On Friday it was my birthday so after District Meeting I got to blow out candles because my District Leader made me a cake! It was so nice of him! So then we went and visited one of the Less Actives in our ward that we visit regularly. Then we went and dropped off cookies to a couple peoples houses. One of them was SiSi. She is great! She is actually a former investigator and knows a lot about the church. She has been to church many times and she has been to a fireside. She is going through a really difficult time in her life right now. Her mother is in the hospital and they don't think that she is going to make it. It's really sad! We have been talking to her about how she can find peace in this life- especially through prayer. Somehow we got on the topic of birthdays and it turns out that I have the same birthday as her late father and Sister Owens has the same birthday as her mom..... coincidence, I think NOT! SiSi was blown away! She thought it was the greatest thing ever! Then Bishop took us out to dinner for my birthday. We went to Texas Roadhouse! This was my first time going there and it was so yummy! So I had a great birthday! Thanks again for all the love and support!

SATURDAY WAS AWESOME! We had Gwen's baptism in the morning. It was great! The Spirit was so strong! Her mom gave the talk on the Holy Ghost and it was so great! I felt so happy through the whole thing! After the baptism we went to the temple so our recent convert (Alexis) could do baptisms. That was so fun! The member that drove us took the scenic route home so we could see some of the fun things. She showed us a great view of the Boston Skyline! And then we drove through Lexington and Concord which was so fun! I just love being in New England so close to so much history!

So we had a great week! Life is good! Thank you for all you do! I hope you have a wonderful week!

Love, Sister Egan

Life Is Good

Life is good here in Glastonbury!

We have had quite the busy week! A lot of things were happening and we have another big week ahead of us! Tuesday was our Pday and  we met up with the Zone and went bowling and mini-golfing. It was so much fun! I was completely TERRIBLE at mini golf! But it was fun to be with the other missionaries! That night we went and met with Gwen and Will. Gwen is getting baptized on Saturday, so we have been preparing her for that and getting everything all planned! We were able to answer a lot of Will's questions- it was just a really good lesson!

On Wednesday, we met with a few Less Actives and introduced them to Sister Owens. My favorite was Sister Rivers- I love her! (She is the one with the gross kitchen we have been cleaning :) She has had a pretty rough life. But I can see how much the gospel has helped her. She is a convert of about 20 years. But even since we have been meeting more regularly with her in the last couple months, I can see how much she has changed. She is more slow to anger and frustration and is actually smiling. The gospel does allow us to change, in fact, it causes us to change. We also had Book of Mormon night on Wednesday. Sister Owens is a PRO!! She took the lead and made it the best Book of Mormon night yet! It was awesome!

On Thursday we went and did service for Bill and Joyce. MORE LEAVES. New England is just full of never ending leaves. They are everywhere! But it was fun to zoom around on the golf cart and dispose of the leaves in the forest! We also went to a RS activity that night- they talked about all the fun things to do in NE. Some are local- so we will be able to do some of them on pdays! New England is just full of amazing things!

Friday turned out to be a really good day! After District Meeting we planned on contacting all the Sisters in the ward that aren't assigned visiting teachers. No luck! Nobody was home! But we were driving and we passed by a former investigator's house. Sister Ross and I had stopped by a couple times but he was NEVER home. This time I felt like we needed to stop by. So we did. And Eddy was home! We talked with him for a little bit and then I pulled out my scriptures to share a verse with him, and my book just fell open to a verse about praying. So I read it. And afterwards he said that he wanted to learn how to pray! So we taught him! It was a really neat experience! He is our new investigator and we will be seeing him this week! Friday was full of miracles.

On Saturday we went to South Windsor Cares Day. It was a service project put together by one of the YM in the ward for his Eagle Project. It was very well organized and it was an awesome project! There were probably 100 volunteers and we were all assigned different homes to go to and do yard work and just help out. It was very successful and we have a couple of referrals from it!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to the best Dad around! I am so thankful for his example of service and hard work! I hope he had a wonderful day!

Thank you for all the love and support! It's going to be a busy week this week!

1,100 Miles

Hello Everyone!

This week was awesome!! We were so busy and we saw so many miracles!

On Tuesday it was the last day of the month. And each month we get 1100 miles. We had 40 miles left for the day and we had to go to South Windsor that night which is pretty far from us. We didn't know if we would be able to make it! In the morning we helped Sister Rivers clean more of her cabinets in her kitchen. The fumes of the heavy duty spray we were using were insane. I thought I was going to pass out! But we made it! We cleaned off the grease on her Fridge and she was the happiest I had ever seen her. She was so happy to have a clean fridge! We didn't have much plans for the rest of the day- we did need to stop by some of our Recent Converts so we parked in a central location and walked a bit. Then we parked near our dinner/evening appointment and walked and knocked there. We were freaking out because we didn't know if we would stay under miles this month even though we have been trying so hard to! So we got home and looked at the odometer. 1100 miles EVEN!!!!! BLESSINGS!

But I think the greatest part of that night was our lesson with The Giard Family. We taught the Plan of Salvation and it was amazing. The spirit was so strong! We looked over at Gwen and she was crying. She was crying because she wants to get baptized so badly! So we asked her what day she wanted to get baptized. She is getting baptized June 25th! We are so happy for her! Will is coming along. The Plan of Salvation answered a lot of the questions he had, so we are looking forward to teaching him more!

On Wednesday we helped at a Blood Drive for a majority of the day. Then we came home and had apartment inspections. The senior couple said we live in the nicest apartment in the mission.... which is totally true. I feel so blessed to live there!

On Thursday we went and did service for Bill and Joyce. I love them so much! Then we went with Sister Steiner to the temple. I love the temple! It was so peaceful there! The Boston Temple is beautiful. It was a fun little trip! We got lost on the way home.... luckily we got lost in Framingham. So I knew my way around and I was able to get us back on the Mass Pike. When we got home we went and got pizza at a little place in downtown Glastonbury because after a certain time pizza by the slice is 1/2 off. Super fun!

On Friday we had zone meeting. It was really good. We talked about teaching people to pray and helping them feel comfortable praying aloud. It was a good training. Then we got Transfer Texts! Sister Ross is going to Madison, CT (I totally called this over a week ago)! And my new companion is Sister Owens. I haven't met her yet, but I am super excited to have her here in Gbury! She has been out for 3 months! The rest of the weekend we spent saying goodbye to people! I am really going to miss Sister Ross. She is a great missionary! I have learned a lot from her!

Thanks for all the love and support! I hope everyone is doing well!

10 Month Mark

Hello Everyone!

This week was awesome! So many amazing things happened!

On Tuesday we had a lot of appointments and we stayed really busy that day. But the week started to get really good on Wednesday. We had a Zone Conference! It was the Hartford, New Haven and Springfield Zones. So it was a lot of fun to be with the other missionaries and to receive training from President Miller and the Assistants. It was awesome! They talked a lot about repentance. Some people think that repentance is like a punishment, but that is hardly what it is. Repentance is showing your desire to follow Christ and become more like Him. It is truly a change of heart. After Zone Conference we went and met with the Giard Family. If you remember from my email last week- this was the mom that came to church with her kids last week and asked Sister Ross and I to teach them. We had dinner with them and then had a lesson. We taught the Restoration and it went really well. The spirit was so strong and we were able to get the kids and the Mom involved. Gwen, the 9 year old daughter, would be baptized tomorrow if she could. She is adorable! I love this family! We are meeting with them again tomorrow evening!

On Thursday we had service and a lot of planning to get done. And then after our dinner appointment, we correlated with our Ward Mission Leader. Then we had 43 minutes until curfew. We decided that we wanted to find a new investigator. We both felt like we could with the Lord's help. So we pulled over and we prayed to know where we should go. We both felt like we needed to go and talk to this lady we had met earlier. So we did, but she really didn't want to talk to us....  We were like, "No what! Who is it that Heavenly Father wants us to teach?" So as we were walking out of the apartment complex we saw Joe. We had met him before and we started talking to him. One thing led to another and we were able to pick him up as a new Investigator!! Prayers work!

On Friday we had a pretty good day! Our district meeting was pretty good! We also had a lesson with Veronica that night. That went pretty well, I thought. She ended up dropping us at the end of the lesson. She just isn't in a place in her life to be able to accept the gospel. I hope missionaries in the future don't give up on her. She has a lot of potential!

On Saturday, Sister Dorrough took us out with her to try to contact her Visiting Teaching Sisters. She also took us to this Japanese place for lunch. I thought it was really good! Sister Ross on the other hand didn't like it so much haha. And Chop sticks were a new thing to her. Sister Dorrough really got a kick out of that! After trying to contact these Sisters unsuccessfully (one of the addresses doesn't exist), Sister Ross and I went to the library and we had a lesson with a potential investigator named, Joseph. The lesson went pretty well. He said he would call us... but we all know what that means haha. It's okay though! Sister Ross and I have really been working on teaching the Restoration simply and I thought we did a pretty good job! That night we watched Meet the Mormons with Ivette and her kids. I love that movie!

On Sunday I hit my 10 month mark! I cannot believe that I have been out that long! Time is going by way too fast!

Well, I hope everyone is doing well! Thank you for all the love ans support!

Love, Sister Egan
